Getting ready for Christmas and some extras!

Christmas with Santa 2007
Christmas with Santa 2008

Oh Santa, if you weren't so scary! This after both kids pitched a royal fit as I tried to pry them off of me and onto him, he had a genius idea of giving me his seat and telling them " bye bye." Isn't it hilarious that i was the only one with a smile! Last year Naomi wasn't aware yet and this year I think Nathan would of done OK if it wasn't for Naomi screaming so bad. Nathan's first Christmas I didn't even try to get a picture b/c I knew what I was in for... but i wish i would have b/c it is probably what most of their pictures with Santa will look like.

This was as Santa was "leaving"
They humored me for a minute... but Nathan was ready to get that sweater off. It only stayed on for the picture and unfortunately not for church.
They really are sweet to each other most of the time. Of course my camera didn't get the kiss.
This is taken from the top of my driveway. Nathan's friend Hunt comes over on Tuesdays (which is such a treat for him.) On this particular day Hunt's brother Stone came too and we had to get all of vehicles out to race. My favorite memory of them racing is when Stone (6) asked Hunt( 4) and Nathan(3) what the name of their team was. Stone's was the batman team, Hunt's was the spiderman team and Nathan said so confidently that his team name was the choo choo train team. I want him to stay young and innocent!
Funny picture to me. Sometimes when my little introvert ( Nathan) needs to unwind or get away from my little extrovert (Naomi), he finds a corner or in this case a stair and snuggles up with his thumb. I really have found him sucking his thumb in corners!
Before I could even stop her from getting dirty, I found her concentrating in this puddle. Nathan on the other hand got one spot on his pants and he wanted to go in and change. They are so funny and keep me laughing.

My camera came back to life!

Thanks for all the concern for my camera. My neighbor came by to take a picture of us last night and I gave it a try anyway and it worked! Maybe it just needed some rest? Anyway... here are a few pictures of Christmas fun and some attempts for a Christmas Card! you will to notice our stockings in the back of the picture. My sweet friend Elizabeth Leslein put our names on it... i guess that is monogramming? Anyway, she was so sweet to do it and they look great! I love this time of year!

Rainy days in December

I was running out of ideas today... so with the rain pouring down outside i looked way up high on the book shelf to the books that i have not read to the kids yet. I pulled down the " Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. I had totally forgotten what a sad book that is. By the time i realized it, Nathan was so engrossed and concerned for the tree. When i turned the last page Nathan looked at me with his lips trembling like he does when he is sad and terribly troubled and said "where did the tree trunk go? I want the tree back Mama." Somehow i managed to calm him down before he completely lost it. He is so tenderhearted. It is so interesting how he can perceive injustice or even evil... he knows it is not right. Such a reminder that God is at work in his little heart. I pray God uses him greatly.

On a funny note, yesterday Eric got him up from bed and he said " I blessed you ed all over my pillow." After i thought about it, i don't know if i have ever taught him the work sneeze.

Sadly somehow my camera decided to stop taking pictures right here in the middle of the Christmas Season.! That is why you might not see any pictures posted for a while and the reason for no Christmas card as of yet. It has been such a wonderful camera. Eric's parents gave it to us before Nathan was born. It makes me think of Nathan as I was so eagar to capture all of his "firsts." One of my technological friends needs to teach me how to post video on here. I have the funniest video of the kids decorating the Christmas tree and dancing to the Charlie Brown music. They truly look like the little kids that dance on the movie. If you come over ask me to put it on... it is worth a laugh.

Fortney Thanksgiving: Cousins Jacob, Naomi and Nathan. Gotta love pictures with kids under 3... they are all looking at something different... but at least they were still! Nathan and Jacob had a big time playing in the yard forever and wrestling... poor Nathan didn't realize his opponent is 15+ lbs bigger!

This is the rocking chair I had as a little girl!

My Dad has it as his mission every holiday to have us all take a picture in this chair to see how everyone has grown... as you can tell it wasn't very successful! Man, Naomi is soooooo emotional these days. She is a little actress these days... balling when you tell her NO and Dancing when she has an audience! Oh the days of Drama are just beginning I fear.

Daddy and his Princess at the Ashley House!

Our little monkey...

I must apologize to my family for the fact that i did not document any of the GREAT meals or fun times together this Thanksgiving. I think i was just on auto-pilot this year... busy trying to make my picky eaters eat something of nutritional value along with watching them enjoy the company of cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents. I realize that i am way too spoiled and have so very much to be thankful for. So, GiGi and NaNa... if you are reading this: Thank you so much for all you did for Thanksgiving and for every meal and visit we share with you. I can't imagine the day I am in charge of such festivities.

I did not capture some of the most fun memories for the kids. Playing at the pond or on Tractors... or pictures with the people that entertained and served us the most. But I AM very grateful for the time i was able to have with our family. I realize some do not have the blessing of a warm place and warm meal at the holidays.

Ali's birthday Weekend

The birday girl and the BEST sister in Law!
Tigger and Piglet: I felt like this was the last year i could get away with doing something cute like this with Nathan. I had to coax him into it.... you know if you are Tigger you can jump really high!

Naomi's first lollipop! I know she is only 14 months.... but i got desperate after three hours in the car without a nap!

In action.

Ali's birthday cake... it was the worst pan cookie i have ever made... i cooked it too long and used margarine instead of butter and it was awful. Thankfully she was a good sport about it.This past weekend we got the chance to visit Eric's sister Alison in Montgomery, Alabama. We got there on Friday afternoon so we were able to do a little trick or treating with the kids. After we went to a few houses Nathan said, " I'm ready to go home. Let's go snuggle on the couch and eat a piece of Candy." I think that was my favorite quote of the weekend.

B/c we were in a different time zone... the kids went to bed before 7pm so Ali and I were able to go to dinner and leave Eric at home to listen for the kids and vegged on the couch.

Sat. we were able to see the sights and watch the sad UGA game. We were able to go to Ali's big church, Frazier United Methodist, where Ali works with the youth.
It was a great weekend and I am so thankful she is in my life.

Visiting with the Ellerbee's

We got to visit with our dear friends, the Ellerbee's this week. They live in Birmingham for half the year and then in California for the other half working with the JH Ranch. So, they are back in the south for the time being. They have been close friends to both Eric and I and our kids are about the same age. The Lord has used them has great encourager's in our life.

My friend Elizabeth (I called her Buffy when we were young.)We have been child-hood friends. We were the maid of honor in each other's weddings.
Our boys are a month apart. Nathan and J.C.

John David and Naomi are 4 months apart.

Aren't they cute! John David looks a little like Charlie Brown! He has like red hair.. such a cutie!

First Pig- tales

So, I had to try it. Her hair is at a funny stage... with her bangs all in her eyes. I am not sure if it fits her personality. It doesn't seem right for her to have pig-tales when she walks around with a scowl on her face. She is a fun handful these days.

Fall wouldn't be fall without pumkins!

We have a little pumpkin patch literally around the corner from us! We all had fun!

A Day of fun!

Freshman friends: Krissy Wilkins, Tara Hurst and Cindy Carnes

We had a fun filled Saturday. I took Nathan to meet Gigi and Papa in Cordelle this morning to go and see " A day out with Thomas." He got to have a train ride along with other train fun. I am so thankful that Eric's parents indulge Nathan in his almost 3 year -old passion of "choo- choo" trains. He was so excited on the way there and exhausted on the way back and has been talking about it ever since!

In between the dropping off and picking up Nathan I met some of my college Friends( that i haven't seen in years) in Valdosta for Brunch. My friend Tara is about to have a little boy in a couple of weeks... so it gave us a good reason to meet up and visit for a couple of hours. It was so good to be with them. I got a chance before i met with them to tour VSU and the new additions. It was so nostalgic and sad in some ways. My 2 story freshman dorm has been torn down and replaced by a huge 5 story dorm with the latest Amminities! Yes, i do realize it has been 13 years since I lived in that dorm.

After Nathan and I got home our whole family got to go the Riverdale Jazz festival. It was fun to see friends, watch the kids jump on the " jumpy things" and watch them dance to Jazz music.

Fun day... but i am tired!

Which costume should we pick?

Option #1: Classic piglet... and can you believe Naomi can say "Piglet" and not Mama!
#2 The cow girl: Of course if it is someone else's hat it is much fun to steal and wear!

Option # 3 Thug baby: you must notice the midriff showing as well. Poor girl has my problem with not finding shirts long enough and she is only 1!

It is amazing what a difference there is between Nathan and Naomi already in dressing. Naomi had the most fun putting her costume on and kept wanting to put it back on. Nathan on the other had... it will be a miracle if i can get him to wear it on halloween for 1 hr!

Cowboy and Pink Princess

Nathan got to go to a Western Birthday Party this afternoon... he had fun with the hat and boots at first, but it only lasted 30 mins. into the party.
Below are some shots of Naomi after church.
She loves walking these days, but she does look a little like frankenstein unless she is walking with something in her hands to steady her.

Her personality is coming out a little more.
She does not seem as senstive as Nathan, she seems a little more strong willed and loves to talk ( loudly!)
